About Us:
In July of 2019, the Goldberg School of Music began a student and community-run record and art label with a summer program. Open to all ages and experience levels, it was sponsored by Berryville Main St and VA Commission for the Arts and culminated in a record release and art exhibition.
Students composed and recorded their own original music, as well as creatively arranged reinterpretations of songs and pieces in all musical genres. The daily schedule consisted of group practice sessions, individual lessons in a variety of different instruments, music, and art class, masterclasses with exciting guest speakers, and hands-on audio engineering experiences.
Spearheaded by our new president and co-founder, longtime Goldberg School of Music student Maya Sachdev, and CEO and co-founder Helena Goldberg, Green Sloth Records became an incorporated non-profit organization in the fall of 2021 newly focused on giving back to the community.
What's Next:
We recently performed at Berryville events, and accumulated donations, which were donated to a homeless family in need working with Winchester Community Mental Health Center!
Our first benefit event was a Toy and Keyboard drive that was held at Melodee Music on December 4th, featuring performances by Goldberg School of Music students and instructors.
These toy and Keyboard donations went to children of low-income and foster families affiliated with Winchester Community Mental Health Center.
Our June 4th recital at Melody Music was another benefit event, and we collected used or new music books to use for our Free Lesson program.
We held our 2022 summer program during the month of July, and have an upcoming release show on August 13th held at Melody Music in Sterling, VA (free admissions, donations welcomed!)
During the 2022-2023 school year, we paired up with Forestgrove Elementary School in Sterling VA, and donated over 600 dollars in recorders to their music program, relieving their families of the funds, allowing the program to continue their music education without the burden of money.
